Blue Mountains, Katoomba to Katoomba via Echo point

Postby ULWalkingPhil » Thu 14 Jul, 2011 6:55 pm

A few months ago, while holidaying in Sydney went hiking for a few days up at the Blue Mountains. Stayed at the Hostel in Katoomba.

Start walk from Hostel at Katoomba, walked to Echo point and followed the track to the 3 sisters lookout, than climbed down the 900 steps to the base of the 3 sisters and walked to the base of the scenic Railway, with it's board walks. By this time I had run out of space on my memory card on my Digital Camera. Climbed up the Fuber Steps, beside a waterfall, returning to Katoomba a few hours later, All up just over 10km. Thoroughly enjoyed the hike.

That's an excellent walk. I took some overseas visitors on it last year, although we piked out at the Furber steps and rode the railway up instead :D For an intro to the Blue Mountains it's hard to beat.

Yes, a nice walk that I've done many times, and variations on it. Doing it in the opposite direction is good but too late in the day and you'll be constantly asked by people going the other way when last scenic railway leaves, then asked what time it is .

To fix your youtube link, just change what you have to:

Went down the Furber steps today. Pretty slippery but there's a section around 3/4 down where the guard rail has wonked out a bit. Red and white tape. Hazardous a bit. Still beautiful scenery.
