Glen Davis - Capertee - Wolgan - Pipeline Track

Thu 09 Nov, 2017 8:13 pm

Two Mexicans are heading north of the border for another adventure. We drove into Glen Davis after our last Kunangra Walls - Kowmung adventure and liked the look of the place. So we've plotted a route as noted above and allowed 7 nights. Also hoping to explore some canyons and maybe spot a Wollemi Nobilis (Dave if you read this is there any hope?). Heading out this weekend. Any suggestions welcome.

Pipeline Track is closed. See this thread for a possible way around the closed section

I don't think you have much chance on the Wollemia nobilis...

Have fun. What canyons are you looking to explore?

I assume Jurassic Canyon would be on the list!

rodb2013; You may not be aware, but unless I've been getting it completely wrong, the David Noble who discovered the Wollemi Pine is not the one who regularly contributes here. That there were two David Nobles with similar interests had me confused for quite a while.

Huh?... Two Dave Nobles you say. I've got an old bushwalking book and that's also by a Dave Noble, so which one wrote that?

And if you tell me there's a third Dave Noble I'll know there's a cloning device in play and the rise of the machines is near...

There are at least two David Nobles in the NSW bushwalking / canyoning scene.

The one of Wollemi Pine fame has a Wikipedia page here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Noble_(canyoner) and in some circles referred to David Noble Junior.

The one who contributes here, has written for Wild and other publications about canyoning and bushwalking and has a blog here - http://www.david-noble.net/blog/ is a different person, and in some circles referred to David Noble Senior.

The Wollemi Pine Dave Noble is (was?) an NPWS Ranger. Possibly retired now.
I think the other DN is/was a teacher.

Thanks for the clarification re the Dave Nobles. Wasn't a Wollemi Pine on sight. Will try to post a report soon. 2 days down Capertee, 1 day down Colo and back (quicksand!), 3 days up Wolgan and over Pipeline Track.

I did that exact same trip in the reverse direction back in c. 1983. Camped at the junction. Will be interested to hear how you got on.

Oh yes, quicksand - lots and lots of quicksand. All the way.

No trip report yet, but you might get a laugh out of me trying to get out of quicksand.

Next time, can we have the show with a backpack on as well?

Would definitely be interested in your trip report when it comes out!

Haha, I had a very similar experience on the Colo last year, except I was walking by myself... was stuck in there for a good 10 minutes I reckon!

I quickly found that a stout 2 m long stick would work wonders for leaning on when we sank in the quicksand. It seemed to spread the load enough.
It was also useful as an extension arm for pulling my wife out.
And yes, this was all with full packs!
