Mount Gould, The Guardians etc.

Postby Scottyk » Mon 18 Jul, 2016 6:28 pm

Hi All
Started doing some trip reports on my new site. This one was an attempt at a trip around Gould, out to the Guardians, through the Labyrinth and the plan was to proceed onto the full Du Cane traverse. Weather stopped us from proceeding past the Du Cane high point but a good trip and a good little introduction into some offtrack walking.
The full report is at http://www.tasgear.com.au/blogs/bushwalking-trips
Thanks
Scotty

Yeah, you don't want to do the scrub bash around Gould if you can go over. Definitely too much hard work. I didn't have much choice as the wind was far too strong for the high route.

The skyline route was contemplated but it just looked so steep with full packs.
It was only about 2 hours of hard work around the eastern side but it took it out of us.

Think it took me longer than that, but I'm built more like the slug at whose pace I walk. Trying to remember. From camp at the saddle below the Minotaur, meander out to the Guardians, quick look at the route down to Horizontal Hell, back to camp, pack, around Gould, pitch about 3/4s of the way along the plateau for the night . . . squelch out to Cynthia Bay the next day (because it started raining overnight, didn't it? ).
At least I got back in time to get a burger before the kitchen at the Hungry Wombat closed.
