How do you know at what point to come out of the gorge?

Our walk was an abbreviated version of the route shown on the map posted by Maelgwn. Our walk was about 15km. The route posted by Maelgwn would be at least 8km longer with more off-track parts.

We started where the map says CAMP and walked up the Gorge. To work out where to exit the Gorge we studied the map and contour lines to consider possibilities where the cliffs were not too steep. We decided to exit the Gorge through a creek bed which appears just below the dot marked on the map that is to the left of top arrow of the map posted by Maelgwn. (The creek bed was dry when we were there). We travelled up the creek for about a kilometre before exiting uphill in a roughly easterly direction to meet the Go-Cart Track.
