Hi everyone,

I understand that the Mt Cavern Track is closed due to damage.

Has anyone walked it since it has been closed?

How badly damaged is it?

Is it impassable or are there just a few fallen trees to climb over?

thanks

Is it worth the risk? The trail is closed indefinitely and hasn’t been open for two years now. If you get in to trouble there won’t be anyone walking through.

Take this with a grain of salt, but I think the track may have been closed due to routefinding concerns more than anything else. I did it a couple of years ago (possibly just before it was closed?) in reverse and lost the trail briefly when walking along the ridge.

If you walk it the normal direction (from the carpark just head up to the right, rather than following the creek) I'd say you'd probably be fine. It's a really nice walk! probably just the SA nanny state mentality kicking in closing everything off

Agree, perhaps there is some minor damage but if you are a keen bushwalker and have a topo map with you you'll be fine. I've done it many times in the past including off track around it (I set a Rogaine in the park a while back) and I'd be surprised if its really that bad. Agree with the above, start going straight up from the carpark. That's also the more gradual climb (with steep descent). Its possible there are quite a few trees across it now, but you can always climb. Some sections higher up are quite thickly wooded.

Please definitely report how you go... :-)
