Anangu Elders announce ban on Uluru climb

Postby Nuts » Wed 01 Nov, 2017 1:04 pm

Copied from a blog post.
Passes the pub test to me, an increasingly rare action in our parks- change motivated by some other force than  Greed!

Item on ABC news as well.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-11-01/uluru-climbs-banned-after-unanimous-board-decision/9103512

Glad they have been able to make the decision. And fully support it, not that my support means anything, nor should it.

Having visited in August and not climbed - I fully support the ban - just plain disrespectful to climb it.

I too don't presume that white support matters in this case, despite the generous consideration of 'non Anangu'.

Out of interest, it would be great to see an emphasis on broader interpretation, extended education, cultural inclusion, in this place. If the Anangu collective choose.

Rather than further appeasing 'our' need to get high, tick comfortable boxes from some other vantage, in some other superficial way.

Anyhow, seems a parallel universe emerging over on this topic, here: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=17358 (lol)

(thanks for the news-link Gaye)

Have you been to the visitors' centre there? There is a lot of educational material available, in a variety of formats, including video, plus the options of guided walks with locals.
