Woodroffe / Zeil / Larapinta 2016

Postby drewmac » Wed 16 Sep, 2015 9:39 am

Hi there,

Putting the planning into a 3 week visit to the centre for next year.
Woodroffe, then Zeil & a stroll along the Larapinta West to East.

Booked Woodroffe with Diverse, that is May 13, 14 & 15.

Any others interested in a joint trip to Zeil?

Share some vehicle hire, provide walking party / safety.
4wd from Yulara, out to Zeil 16th, base camp, climb on the 17th, drive to Alice 18th, drop off car.
May 16, 17 & 18th.

Then the Larapinta, 19th to 30th, happy doing this on my own as such.

Still doing this Drew ?
Our little group did Woodroofe with Desert Tracks (Yulara) many years ago, great experience.
The trad owner there Peter was awesome, as too his family, the sand drawings, songlines, watching them live traditionally with some modern assistance is interesting.
Old Peter was coming to Adelaide for a cataract operation soon after we visited, I hope it went well for him.

We did Mt Zeil and Larapinta in one hit on another trip.
Flew into ASP, shuttle bus to Glen Helen, then they took us out by 4WD and dropped us out the west end of Mt Zeil range . . . THAT was a feeling of isolation.
We then bagged the summit next day, and day following walked over the range and down to Redbank Gorge, think it was another 17 days then to ASP with one food drop.

Not sure how you'd go going into Zeil in your own hired 4WD, they were pushing through some untracked land in there, but it is on their property, so I think it best to talk to them about access ?
Cheers,
Les
