Hi Folks. I published some track notes in WILD a few years ago: about a 3 to 4 day walk from Hawks Head down to the Z Bend. Its quite a cruisey walk but:
i) Water - wait until july august then you can collect water from rain water pools en route rather than carry 10l.
ii) river crossings are a doddle in OCT and sometimes only necessary to get to a better campsite / easier walking. I have walked the whole route on the true LH Bank as the river was flooding and we could not cross.
iii) THE DEC will tell you its a CANYON and really dangerous. They have no idea. Down stream of Z Bend there are some hi traverses and ledges but it is NOT a canyon.
iv) There is some good rock climbing to be had as well.
