When is the Bartle Frere trail reopening?

Hello,
Does anyone know if or when the Bartle Frere trail is likely to reopen? - I would like to walk it at some stage and the season for doing so is coming up in a few months. I realise Yasi did quite a lot of damage and there would be a lot to clean up (and not many staff to do so), but the DERM site is very unhelpful and vague.

Can someone tell me what "until conditions are safe for walkers" means? When trees over the path suddenly roll out of the way?
Thanks.

Hi,

This isn't much of a direct answer for you, but basically all the major walks between Cairns and Townsville seem to be closed still due to Yasi. I've been watching for park updates and the only recent changes have been that a few campgrounds have opened, but no major walks. The Thosborne Trail is the same, I'm guessing it may be closed for a good part of the year. For the near future, I'm planning to do my hiking around the Mackay/Proserpine region.

When I have had questions about trails, the actual park rangers--as opposed to the DERM people on the phone had some good info.

Hi,
So has anyone spoken to the rangers around that area? I want to walk Bartle Frere in June also and was wondering how bad it could be.
Thanks.

Spoke with the ranger up there at the Josephine Falls office today. He said it wont be until about July that they get to open the track (and that is only a maybe). Keep looking at the DERM website for updates. He also mentioned that the track is impassable/flattened, you just won't make it to the top at the moment. Looks like I will have to put that trip back and book flights for later.
Cheers.
