The right choice given everything going on right now, I had plans to do the Sunshine Coast Great Walk over the Easter Break but instead I'll use this time to get my pack weight down and learn a few more knots for my tarp.

I got a warning from the police last Saturday returning to the car from an off track walk in the scenic rim. They said it was unnecessary travel. We were some of the most isolated people on the rim that day. Went for a walk around the block yesterday and passed a total of 62 people

Within 250k. From July 10 all of Qld as I read it and if it goes to plan. I've had my Tasmanian trip cancelled for late June but at least I can head out for a few nights camping down Lamington NP and the like.

Booked Rat-a-tat for an excuse to shake the legs and test all the new gear I convinced myself I needed during quarantine :) Excited to see what adventures people have planned

I just booked it for next week too, haven't been since Feb of last year and the foot pad was terrible - has it improved at all since then?

Lucky you! I'm still recovering from an ankle fracture! :( I still can't believe this happened. I was going to hike Leaning Peak this Sat. but had to postpone it until the 20th of this month. Not fully able to walk well...plus the lack of fitness for not hiking since late last year. It's going to be a tough hike.

Hope you enjoy yours. :)

I haven't been that way since before you did it, but I think everything's going to be pretty sketchy. Between the bushfires and then COVID none of the parks have seen much traffic this year, even along the graded NP tracks.
I'm still recovering from an ankle fracture! :(

Bad luck  hope you have a speedy recovery.

Now that's a bit of badluck, gbagua...heal & hopefully you'll be out & about before you know it.

I'm just planning an easy overnighter on a freezing, windy, moonlit summit somewhere on the Main Range...waking up with the morning sun to a breathtaking view with a bit of luck. Enjoying what we've all missed for so long. I'll be thinking of you.

If anyone else is fond of Springbrook but generally avoids it because of the teeming hordes of humans, now's the time, because it's EMPTY! I went up today, did the Purlingbrook/Warringa Pool/Great Walk to the road circuit and saw only 5 people on the entire track. I don't think it's been that quiet since the forestry days. The pool at the bottom of the Falls had only two people in it :o ! Usually it's busier than the Chermside Aquatic Centre, even on weekdays.
Anyway, get in quick because I'm sure it won't last long.

That's too bad, maybe I just got super lucky.
If anyone was planning to head to the Cream Track be aware that according to their website it's closed until 30th June for repairs. There also seemed to be a lot of construction traffic coming in and out of the newly acquired NP sections along Repeater Station Road, though I didn't stop to investigate.

The Binna Burra end of Lamington NP is still closed...until the end of August. Updated yesterday.

My hunch is that it will stay closed until the road reopens, which is co-incidentally scheduled for August. I suspect that Parks don't want people overestimating their walking ability, launching out from the O'Reilly end of the Border Track and finding themselves short on time at the Binna Burra end with no easy way out.

About a fortnight ago I found out the hard way (i.e. through lack of planning; cue quick detour to Natural Bridge and boy, hasn't that turned into a theme park :|) that the great walk section from Numinbah Valley to Binna Burra is also still closed; officially for 'unstable conditions' but I'd guess that the access restrictions play a part. It may miraculously become more stable in August
According to the Qld Police Officer I spoke to at the border crossing, there is no restriction on walking up from the Numinbah Gate to Bushranger's Cave/Mount Wagawn, but that was never an official walk anyway.
Interesting video about the road reconstruction with some great drone footage of the work in progress...

Lovethang / warloch, I'm heading out to Rat-a-tat this weekend, would you be able to share how the trail conditions were 2 months ago?
