Road at Carnarvon Gorge

Postby TwoDuck » Thu 30 Jun, 2016 8:34 am

Hi all
Heading to the gorge on Monday in our 2WD mazda - low to the ground! Anyone been out to Carnarvon in the last couple of weeks since the couple of rain events we've had, and can tell us what the road is like?
There are no park alerts posted on qpws website, and considering it's school hols I thought it a good bet it would be posted if the road was impassable... Also nothing listed on the RACQ website.
Is no news good news?
Thanks for any information anyone has. Cheers.

Just got back from Carnarvon. Roads are in great shape. You'll go through one waterway with about 2 inches of water over a concrete causeway. Roads in mostly bitumen anyway except for the last bit. No phone signal but there is free wi-fi at the info centre during opening hours. Hot showers, great spot...take plenty of $1 coins for the showers. If you have time, the detour through Arcadia Valley was a nice drive south. Watch out for cows on road and LOTS of emus.

Thanks for the replies! We had no problems, and had an awesome time! Lots of people given school holidays, even at Big Bend. Our 11yo really enjoyed it, plenty of interest for kids.
