Two day Hike around Brisbane

Postby Zacmac » Tue 02 Feb, 2016 11:54 am

Hi Everyone.

I'm very new to this so needing to get a few over night trips in.

I'm looking for some good hiking days where I would walk around 4-6kms difficult or 8 - 12 kms not so hard.
I am training for Overland Track so will be carrying all my gear with me.

I want to be able to camp that night then head back or do a loop if you know of one.

I would normally be leaving around 2pm on a Saturday afternoon.

Love to get some ideas as im looking to go this weekend.

Two day Hike around Brisbane

There is nowhere close to the city if you want to camp.
If you are determined to camp, head to O'Reilly's or Binna Burra. Both have good loop walks and camping at the entrance, and some limited camping opportunities in the bush. You can get maps from the Qld NPRSR web site
Camping - you can practice in the backyard. Mt Coot-tha was my preferred training walk for Nepal trekking. Start early and you can get a good 12km walk in with plenty of climbing and be back for brunch.

Southside
Warrie circuit, Springbrook will give you a good workout, just up the road from the walk is the Settlement Campsite.
Lots of waterfalls to keep your camera finger happy.

Or as Ron says, base yourself at Binna Burra or O'reilly's & pick & choose the length of your walks you feel like doing....both have
camp areas to book into.
Maybe too much for you at the moment, but the Border Track, starting at either Binna Burra or O'reilly's is another option,
remote camping sites in Lamington just reopened yesterday on the 1st Feb.

P.S. I now realise your on the Northside....D'Aguilar N.P., for short & long walks + camp areas & remote camps.

There doing planned burns between Jan - April, so give them a call first. http://www.nprsr.qld.gov.au/park-alerts/13937.html

Enjoy your training trips....

England Creek Bush Camp (in D'Aguilar NP) is an awesome spot! It's ~12km or 14km depending on which route you take, but it has a nice campsite, log benches, and creek. It took my girlfriend and I 2.5hrs, and 3.5hrs for the respective routes. If When we visit again we'll head in via the Lawton Road track (https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/924218220) and out via Joyner's Ridge Road/England Creek Road (https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/924218180).
