Fraser Island or Hinchinbrook Island?

Postby jlbmdm » Thu 15 Oct, 2015 5:15 am

Hello, I’m planning some trekking in Queensland during the second half of November and my options are Great Walk in Fraser Island or Thorsborne Trail in Hinchinbrook Island. Which one is more interesting (landscape, wilderness, forests, weather, mozzies, etc.)? Pros and cons?
I don't have a car so my plan was to use public transportation
Thank you in advance
Jose

Hi Jose,

Have never been to either, but I suspect Hinchinbrook will be unpleasant at that time of year - see viewtopic.php?f=38&t=21338.

It's also storm season for south east queensland at the moment (though perhaps Fraser is less storm-prone than Brisbane - someone might be able to correct me on this).

EDIT: just realised you've probably already been and gone... hope you had a good walk, wherever you went!

Cheers,
Munch

Yes, there is not drink water in ramsay bay, so you must take water with you form the first two days. From Zoe Falls on, there is no problem.

Just a note to those doing this walk in dry periods... At Little Ramsay Bay you may need to walk up Warrawilla Creek a bit to find water. The water here sometimes runs underground and reappears/disappears at various places along the creek.

When I was last there (September 2015) I had a number of people tell me along the trail that the creek was dry and they drank the brackish water from the lagoon. When we got to Little Ramsay we headed up the dry creek bed for a few hundred metres and there was good running water.

Other than the water, how was the walk? Must have been hot.
