SEQ O/N walk

Postby vanNek » Tue 10 Mar, 2015 6:52 pm

Hey Guys,

I know this has been probably already been asked but..

I'm looking for a O/N night walk near Toowoomba QLD. I was thinking Main Range or D'Agualir National parks.

I haven't done any pack walking for some time, so preferably something that won't require a lot of paper navigation.

Hoping someone may have some suggestions...

Thanks Luke

Hi vanNek.....the varied info & links provided here viewtopic.php?f=38&t=19398
should help you choose a National Park, track or remote camping spot.

N.P's near you...they usually have camp & track info to print out or download.

Cheers ofuros I am following that thread.

The national park web site doesn't seem to be very informative for larger hikes... Or combing larger hikes into over nighters.

Hi vanNek,

Can't be of too much help as I've only done o/n walk in SEQ, but it was a beauty - from O'Reilly's out to Rat-a-tat hut, and back via waterfall section of Albert River Circuit. Some 'off-track' walking but (apparently) not as difficult as other areas. You might be looking somewhere a bit closer though.

If you haven't already checked out viewforum.php?f=48 it's worth reading through many of those threads. I get many of my walking ideas from there and there are several with overnight walks in SEQ.

You could also do smaller sections of any of the Great Walks as overnighters. I imagine the national park site is scant on info for the remote walks on purpose to discourage inexperienced walkers from doing them.

Cheers,
Munch

You did mention your limitations, so I didn't go any deeper & mention 'off track' overnight walks....a couple below.

Main Range Goomburra section
Mt Castle overnighter..remote tent sites @ Laidley Falls, the saddle before the dragons spine & the summit itself.
Amphitheatre + Blackfellow falls overnighter...better to use a hammock there as the land it sloping & dense in places, also ok for a day walk.
From the end of the road car park at the Mt Castle Lookout there old ridgeline 4wd track that's easy walking and you can use as an overnighter,
it overlooks the Amphitheatre + the falls from a different angle.

From Spices Gap.
Spicer Peak circuit..tent camp on the NW ridge.
There's a backdoor circuit or walk through to Mt Mitchel, camping on the SW ridge.
Or you could combine both peaks at the same time & return to the car at Cunninghams Gap.

The Main Range Traverse can be done in overnight pieces.

Remote camps here. http://www.nprsr.qld.gov.au/parks/main- ... mping.html

From either Swanfels rd, Emu Creek rd or Teviot Falls (The Head Rd) which has been re-opened recently.
....lots of other ridges & peaks to explore in that area as well. The Steamers viewed from a different angle from Mt Guymer,
Lincoln Aircraft wreck on Mt Superbus, which has a small campsite on top.

A bit more online 'off track' info here. http://www.southee.com/

The list just goes on & on...
