6ft Track this week

Postby KANANGRABOYD » Mon 13 May, 2013 5:40 pm

Seeing as I can't get to Konangaroo in the next week or two,to go fishing, gonna do the 6ft Track for some time to kill.
Will be starting Wed morning.
Just wondering if anyone else from the forum will be on the trail?

Me to. I'm also starting at Jenolan. I'll be in my hammock, so keep an eye out and if you see me say hello.

I'm starting Friday. I'll be a day behind you. Looks like we will not cross paths.

I think I will take my down jacket.

I will have with me my -7c top quilt and -7c bottom quilt. Taking my hammock.

Nellie's Glen is nice, as is the descent from Black Range campsite into Jenolan. Most of the rest is a pretty boring firetrail slog, to be honest. I would much more recommend Mt Solitary or the Grose Valley.

That's great everyone, I will be in my TT Contrail. I'm starting from Katoomba.
Weather should be good. Finally cool weather, I was dying in these desert conditions the last few months.
Cheers

Do I have to carry enough water to reach camp each day? Or can I collect water on the way. ?

It is best if you carry enough water to reach camp each day.

Although you maybe able to collect some near Alum Creek as well on your second day.

May sure you take some gloves as it can snow anytime out there on the track.

I was last there in the middle of October and while the weather forecasters only said a couple of showers, it turned into 15 cm of snow and an entire day of sleeting rain.

Well I know that there was some hail up in the blue mountains earlier and the temps are getting down. Actually last time I did the 6 foot track it was April and we had a little snow. Hopefully youll get your first taste of snow Phil.

It sure is cold up here. Forecast for frosty mornings over the weekend.

I would imagine if I carry 2 liters of water, it should be plenty till I reach camp.?

I been staying at Katoomba since Monday.

This will be the coldest I ever take my hammock down to.

I have my Hammock Gear 20F Top quilt, Warbonnet 20F under quilt a couple jackets including my Macpac Down Jacket and my Hammock Gear Cuben Tarp. Surely that will be sufficient.

You'll be fine with that setup phil. I cant recall which direction your walking first but if katoomba to jenolan then your second day will be your thirstiest. If jenolan to katoomba you'll have an initial slog out of jenolan but a fairly short day. Then your last day up Nellies glen will be the thirsty one.
