Yes we have a winner! Dangars Falls near Armidale, a great spot for gorge walking.
Thanks for playing Stef, it was starting to get lonely in here :).

No worries John. It seems the game has slowed down a little.

One from yesterday. NSW.

North? They really need to sort out the names of all those lumps, even if it's just by numbering them. Anything to clarify exactly which is which.

Thank you.
Moving to South Aus. A nice big cairn with rather different "logbook". What does it mark?

And eggs (of course) gets it. Yep, Mt Hayward. Soon to be followed by False Hayward, South Hayward and Hayward Bluff. They were so imaginative with those names.

The southern peaks have a reputation as an "interesting" traverse.
And I am yet to get to Hayward, but did camp near the top of Walkandi.

Staying in SA.

I noticed a good tentsite up there. Great sunset/sunrise spot. Few decent bivvy sites further south as well. Not that I'm keen on doing that ridge with a full pack.

The traverse itself isn't bad, but has a lot more up and down than you would think from the low view. A car shuffle would let you start at Aroona, go up Walkandi, and descend via Heysen Hill to the gorge road, but it's easy enough to find a way down just south of Hayward Bluff.
Trying to climb Hayward or any of the others directly, however, is not something I would advise. Too many cliffy bits in the way.

I have seen a trip report which did in fact go fairly directly down from Hayward.
It picked a break in the cliff line a little south of the peak.

Hint - this shot is amazingly close to population.

Thanks Eggs. I must check it out when I go back in March.

Next one's in SA on a popular loop. Never seen an emu go for a swim before.

Clue time.

This little dam is next to a camping spot named after a place in Tasmania, which has quite good diving

The loop track is afraid of Polk Salad Annie.

Cheers

Well that was an education...
I had initially thought Adelaide Hills, but really had hardly anything to go on.
Then a clue about Polk Salad Annie... what a hoot....!!
Looks up a map of Alligator Gorge [you will have to listen to the song] and behold - Eaglehawk Dam campsite.

Well done Eggs,

Its a pity that the last half of that walk is a dreary trudge down the 4WD track after such a fantastic walk through the gorge.

Still having an Emu prance around the tents at the campsite and then on spotting me , decides to walk into the water and have a swim ( I got some of it on video- 'cos most people don't believe me!) this was a priceless lunch spot.

As usual with SA pics.....it's over to Eggs.

I think I have only been past there once, though I have been to Alligator Gorge quite a few times.

Next is NSW
