Closest guess so far, but still a little far off.

I'd give you a hand, but I think I just did.

Could it be looking at the traveller range enroute to Castle crag?
Fri 21 Jun, 2019 7:38 am
Much closer! Within 12kms
Fri 21 Jun, 2019 8:13 am
My next thought was that you are looking up at Cathedral Mountain (or Twin Spires or one of those other bluffs up there) from the Mersey Valley between Lees Paddocks and Kia Ora.

Graham51 wrote:...one of those other bluffs up there...
Correct!
But not from the right area. I'm on a far more frequented track.

Is it from Arm River Track with the slopes of Pillinger on the left?

Bang on!
When I got home I looked up the fire on the TFS website, and it was a controlled burn in Lee's Paddocks.
Over to you Graham

Thanks, Zane. I was there just a few weeks ago but couldn't see beyond Pillinger, and not even that far a lot of the time.
Where was I here?

Hmmm..maybe looking over the Tiger Range to Mt Field...are you on the Rasselas Track just below Lake Rhona?
EDIT - Or rather above Rhona Climbing to Great Dome?

Yes, above Rhona heading for the Great Dome and Reeds Peak.

Mt Sprent?
Mon 24 Jun, 2019 4:13 pm
I reckon you should post next Last in Ricks absence.
Mon 24 Jun, 2019 5:09 pm
Agreed - this has to be from Sprent.
Mon 24 Jun, 2019 6:05 pm
I was fairly confident that it was Sprent or nearby.
I am about to go for a walk, someone else please post.

Thanks, Last. I'll jump in:

I thought piles of peak-baggers might know this one. While it's not an Abel, we'd been on one a little earlier in the day, and there's another one in view.
Tue 25 Jun, 2019 10:00 am
Whoops! I forgot it's not on the peak-baggers' list.
Sorry. Forget the above clue, except for the comments re Abels which are correct. And the 'pile', which I couldn't weave usefully into the clue.
I'll have another shot. In fact, not many people would have visited this rather disparagingly-named high point. A fair few Abel-collectors and peak-baggers would have walked nearby.
Where are you, nnw? I know you'll know it.

Hmm is this Back Peak? *Correction - it is Heap of Rocks!*

Yes!

Where is this steep hill climb?
Sorry about the sideways photo. If you click on it, it goes the right way up. Not sure why it loaded like this!
Tue 25 Jun, 2019 11:39 am
It looks a little like Mt Balfour. But I remember the track being a LOT rougher than that, so maybe not.
Tue 25 Jun, 2019 11:57 am
Right quarter of the state, but not near Balfour
Tue 25 Jun, 2019 11:58 am
I'll accept the name of the ridge, the valley it runs alongside, or the lookout at the top of the hill.
Tue 25 Jun, 2019 5:27 pm
More clues? This was about 40kms into an ultra-marathon.

After some research and head scratching I'm thinking this could be the takayna ultra.
If that assumption is correct I'll try Brooks Ridge.
Wed 26 Jun, 2019 9:02 pm
Not the takayna ultra. This one was little more nuts than that one. It is East of Mt Balfour, and not very far from a national park.

OK from the clue I'm guessing this will be the Tasmania's Gone Nuts 101 Adventure Run. I've done some walking in Rocky Cape NP, which some race routes traverse or pass nearby. It's all semi-informed guesswork but I'm going to say Knife Edge Ridge, Millicent Valley, Myhill Lookout.
