If thats right then i'll be really cross with myself because i was just about to suggest Quamby Bluff as a pure guess as i really had no idea, but then i decided i wouldn't risk the embarrassment of being painfully wrong.

The trick here is to ask a clever question so you know you're heading in the right direction. :)

Or - the trick is not to be embarressed - particularly not painfully!!
Its just fun - not sheep stations

It would have been a great guess, I was way off in my thinking.

I didn't really have a lot of images to choose from, certainly not high quality ones as my photography is done with a compact digital. So, I thought I would perpetuate the pattern that seems to be emerging.

I'm looking east, I'm looking over towards Ben Lomond, Barrow... I'm about 50 km away, and I'm up high. So I must be somewhere near Deloraine, no, further east. How about Western Bluff? Never been there tho.
Can I hedge my bets and say Poatina if Western Bluff is wrong? It's gotta be somewhere up there.

EDIT I got my bluffs wrong, it isn't Western Bluff up past Poatina. Should check my walking books a bit more.

Tasadam

great thinking - your description of what you are looking at was very helpful, but how far apart do you think Poatina and Western Bluff are?
[hint - I think the strollers are planning on going to Western Bluff  ]

I am going to suggest this is from Dry's Bluff.
Never been there, but we went through Poatina last Dec and this looks further North than there.

Tasadam was spot on with his description and was CLOSE with his guess but not quite on.

Eggs is correct, the image was taken from the boulder field below the escarpment of Dry's Bluff. I thought it was appropriate given that the last image was from Quamby looking at Dry's and the previous was from Roland looking at Quamby.

For those who have not walked up Dry's Bluff it is a nice day walk with some impressive views.

Over to you Eggs.

I knew it was a view to the east, and with all that farmland in the foreground I figured it must be on the eastern side somewhere.
I haven't been to Drys either. I guessed, based on my opinion of where it sticks out, that there should at least be some other hilly bit in between Drys and that eastern view, but I could be wrong - not going into analyticals of topographicals for it.
As for Poatina and Western Bluff, all I know of Western Bluff is that if you drive up past Poatina heading south it's somewhere on your left, hence my guess.
I don't mind being wrong - particularly if my opinions / guesses helps someone else.

Now you have really thrown me.
Are there 2 Western Bluffs? The strollers are looking at the western edge of the plateau near Lake MacKenzie.
But I am not familiar with the Tiers & Bluffs heading South from Poatina?

In between writing, I see I have the nod.
That was a tough one, bushrunner.
So this will be a bit harder than my last one.

Looking southwest to Frenchmans, but where from?
Tricky - the blue background yet close-up look of Frenchmans makes me think it's using a lot of zoom so could be anywhere.
How about Rufus plateau?

Yes - this one is a zoom.
But the foreground gives some clues - look at the rock type.
Its not looking south-west. Note the order of the peaks around Frenchies

Yeah, I've seen that conglomerate stuff somewhere - for some reason my mind keeps telling me it was pink when I saw it last.
But I can't think where it was. And the scoparia keeps throwing me because there was none of that in the places I was thinking of - hence my initial guess of "plateau", not "summit".
I'm off now.
Good luck to the next lucky spinner.

Your turn Nick

Its from near the top of Mt Tyndall.
The plants are actually Milligan's Mountain Heath and they were profuse - all over the top of the mountain.
And that conglomerate has a lot of pink in it. The time of day and light angle does not show it up as much.

And then I realise it cannot be, for I was thinking it was looking west, maybe, but there is a fire in the valley, and there is nowhere down there that should have a fire.
So blowed if I know. Cool spot though.

I believe that you are standing on the true (south westernish) summit of Dry's Bluff looking west.

Wherever it is, you were there at 1:32PM on 4th September 2008. But your posts on the forum don't give any clues, so I'm out on this one.

It's not dry's bluff, maybe people from the southern half of the state will have a better idea.

I think Eggs's post below is on the money. The near peak should be Trestle Mountain?

I suspect this might be taken from Collins Bonnet - looking out over Trestle Mountain & Mount Marian.
My thinking is that the snow on the right is Mt Field and the snow on the left is the Snowy Range - as hinted by Nick

Boy, that was quick! Nick S put the picture up, I knocked off, headed home, made a coffee, sat down, logged in and it was all over. :(

I'm glad you all love this game! Aren't the pictures great? A few simple rules have been posted into the first post - to help me work out what this games about. :D
