Well done, johnw. Spot on in every detail.

The locomotive cab ride ticket offers free access to ride on the outside at any time, through a door beside the driver. The driver warns you before he honks the horn, so that you can block your ears. The rules are: "Feel free to go outside, but whatever you do, don't fall off."

The locomotive is passing through the San Isabel National Forest. (I can't edit the caption on the original photo because it is past the editing window.)

Thanks ribuck, it looks like a lot of fun. Though I'm having visions of the Safework people here going into meltdown if we had similar.

Let's stay with the USA:

I'm on a tropical island. This local peak has a distinctive shape when viewed from the coast.

It is Hawaii but not Diamond Head or anywhere on Oahu. I'm on another island.

Thanks Greg, took a bit of research. I fear my chances of ever getting up there are slipping away now.

Over to the North American continent. Name the lake, bonus points for anything else:

Almost got it but this is not Two Jacks. The "nearby" in the previous clue will help nail this much larger neighbour.

 Well if you drop the "r", yes. Lake Minnewanke it is. They actually pronounce the last bit "wonka" as in Willy Wonka but I suspect you knew that .
I didn't check the names when I was there, but I believe those peaks would be correct from my viewpoint.
