Perhaps it is the stairs onto Orphan Rock (not that I've ever been there (wink)).

Tyreless has it right! And thanks jonnosan for the link to that most informative video.

[edit: I should perhaps caution that this is not the crux of the ascent.]

Great photo. Is this the north wall of the Grose, between Yileen Gully and Pierces Creek?

I'll have a stab in the dark and say Anvil Rock. Need to pay more attention to the various walls in the Blue Mtn's to stand a chance at this game

Having visited just above here I probably should have known this straight off. I was also down in the valley for 2 nights last weekend and walked in via Pierces Pass . I think the party below is on the edge of Hungerfords Gully below Rigby Hill. Ribuck has done all the hard work on this and can go next if I'm correct.

It doesn't seem right that I submitted two wrong guesses and get the next turn, while johnw submitted one correct guess and doesn't! Anyway, thanks John and Tyreless.

Here's another photo in a similar vein to my previous one. This is in a National Park in NSW:

That's it, jonnosan.

The photo is from around 2005. I was last there a couple of years ago and there was only a thin knotted rope at the bottom, which I didn't manage to climb.

Thanks ribuck

I never saw that wooden construction, I got up the rope part once about 3 years ago and then through the metal section but got beaten by the rope assisted scramble right at the top.

I'm really struggling for pix here - where in NSW was I when I took this incompetent selfie?

Sorry for butting into this thread but I have to ask. Did your walk include a visit to Mt Jellore?

It's either Jagungal with that stupid block of whatever it is, or somewhere close to a laundromat. That shirt looks so much cleaner than any that I wear in the bush.

Huh? Why wouldn't it, indeed? I bow to your extensive knowledge, eggs. I have yet to investigate Kkoschiischiooscko and environs.

eggs you are on the NE bank of Blue Lake Creek, maybe just about to head up the Crummer Spur on your right to Little Twynam? One of my favourite hill climbs around there.

Thanks eggs, yes it is. Looking forward to my next visit after Christmas. Sorry for the slow reply, had to have minor surgery yesterday which made the day a little chaotic.

Still NSW, where are my family members wandering to:

Not Dead Horse Gap track jonnosan, this is a much shorter walk. There's probably around 25km between here and DHG as the crow flies.

No, but you're very close. The destination is a feature at the bottom of the shallow valley ahead of us.
