Well my research suggests the top of it looks like it could be Mt Haast, but I'm not certain.
My one brief trip to the area had many of these peaks hiding in the clouds for much of the day.

Given the first clue - a well known peak, and the fact it has an elongated summit ridge and it is near Mt Tasman, I suspect this is Mt Cook.
I just cannot place the glacier and the spur on the left, but it might just be a case of perspective. [it might appear larger than it is]

Yes and yes (to eggs and wayno). Guess its your turn next eggs.

In my opinion I don't think the glacier appeared larger than it is in the photo - its pretty imposing (particularly when you get up close and personal)

OK - so I presume you were heading up Haast Ridge to Haast Hut?
So John was not far off either..

It was the size of the bare rock area on the left that I was wondering about. Maps of Anzac peaks do not indicate as much rock, but the angle of the shot probably contributes.

Next one is in France
A telephoto shot - name the range.

Haven't been to this area of France, but I'll guess Aiguilles Rouges (as I've climbed the equivalent in NZ and remember that it was also a range in France....)

Yes - I noticed an Aiguilles Rouge in NZ via this game.
And yes - this is a shot of the Aiguilles Rouges [= red] from the Trek de Mt Blanc when climbing towards Col de Tricot on the 2nd day.

The closest peak in this photo of the group is Le Brevent - with its Cable Car station and restaurant
We were at Brevent on day 1.

Yeah I think the last Aiguilles Rouge reference in this game was my imput from NZ....

Also to comment on the Mt Cook photo yes John wasn't far off (Haast Ridge is just off to the right) - photo was actually taken from the Tasman Glacier field.......

I'll keep it in the same part of the world as eggs's photo - name one or both of these nice looking mountains in Switzerland.

Thought someone would recognize the village in the zoomed out shot and then work it out..........

One of the mountains in question is the highest in The Alps completely within a country (mountain massif not within 2 or more countries)

My first reaction was weisshorn... doesn't quite match my photos, but thought it might be a different aspect. But I think the village in the second photo is zermatt, so the angles are all wrong for the weisshorn. Is it Dorn?

Yep you have it - Dom is on the left and the one on the right is Taschhorn (very nice looking peak - its high on my climbing list). Zermatt is below.

I'm not too far from Weisshorn but its behind me on my left (actually climbed on its flanks earlier in the day)

I think we have seen this view before in this comp. Haven't been on the range before but the recognizable view of Aiguille du Midi and Mont Blanc tells me you are on the Aiguille Rouge range. Not sure of the lake but I'll guess perhaps Lac Blanc (from your 'touristy' hint)

Yes it does look like a prime location for good views of the Mont Blanc massif........

Moving a little closer to home, where are we heading? (Pacific Islands)

Its a route that is hardly ever used up a rarely climbed mountain so it doesn't surprise me that you don't recognize it..........

Lets just say that we were a day too late to summit weather wise (a blizzard was blowing early the next morning when we summited) - that should narrow it down

Blizzard?? In the Pacific Islands...??
Well that probably suggests Papua New Guinea which was my first thought.
But the rarely climbed is going to throw me - unless you think Mt Wilhelm is rarely climbed?

Yep it was a give away - Wilhelm it is. Although our view was foiled, snow on the equator was quite the novelty.

Perhaps differing opinion on the term 'rarely' (I personally wouldn't consider it a popular peak but I may be wrong........). We climbed the long approach from the west (did the mountain traverse) which I do believe is rare anyway.....

History repeats itself :)

MountainMadness posted the same mountain here on 28 May 2016. And said "Route we took ... rarely sees non-locals but the mountain is not uncommon to climb...". And eggs said "In the absence of any knowledge of the place, I could ask if it is Mt Wilhelm?". And eggs was correct.

You're tempting me to put up another Mt Kenya pic with talk of snow at the equator.

But I will go back to Europe - and this is a zoom shot of a tourist destination - what is it?

Not in Germany.
We were up there the next day. You might be able to make out some of the tourists on the saddle to the right.
Clue - there was no cable car to this place.

No cable car, plus a large building on the summit, suggests alternative transport such as a rack railway. Not that this gets me any closer...

I believe it is around 3466m high - if that helps - and it is in a saddle between 2 major peaks.
The building in view is an Observatory - with a somewhat Egyptian flavour to its name.

Well that means it must be Jungfraujoch (and the observatory is The Sphinx). The tourists ride the rack railway to the highest railway station in Europe.
