March this year, though I did live in Wellington and Auckland from 1986 to 1992, and got married on One Tree Hill.

Anyway, if it's your house you should be able to name it :)

Hmm. Ain't english funny. It was someone elses turn to guess the location. But since you jumped in and since Wayno had a recent photo up from the other side. The rocks were the Cathedral Rocks on the rim of Ruapehu.

This is a very well known Andean mountain on the frontera of Argentina and Chile, famous for its archaeological discoveries. It is over 6,000m high.

When pondering this last night it did look very much like one of the classic desert volcanos from Peru/Argentina/Chile, but didn't recognize it from any of my adventures from the northern half of the continent.....

Your combination of hits for altitude/archeological importance/location lead me to think that it is Llullaillaco. Certainly an area (southern deserts/volcanos) that will be in my itinerary next time (if!) I make it to South America.

Yes you are correct. It's a wonderful stratocone with some awesome dacite flows that you can see on the left. Some of the mummies are available to look at in the small museum in Antofagasta de la Sierra in Catamarca province of Argentina. There is a group that does guided tours to the summit also, but I didn't do that. This photo was taken just as those lenticular clouds were building up to a big snow dump. Many impressive volcanoes in this area, my favourite is Socompa, very photogenic.

Yes your closing in.

The name of the locality/river (share the same name) will suffice.

Yep that's the one. Hundreds of ks either side of that was just rock and sand - arriving in that luscious and green delta was fairly spectacular......

Teplice Rocks in the Czech republic
Thanks MM. Yes the coast south of Lima is mindboggling, Desert sand and and rock right from the edge of the city for 100s and 100s of miles. I believe that upstream the Camana becomes or is joined by the Rio Colca of Colca Canyon fame.
Was tempted to post a pic from the other end but instead where in Bohemia is this taken.

The view behind me is grand. Just need the name of the general location or NP.

Not sure if you dropped a sneaky little critic clue there but I'll have a rough guess at Grand Teton. Bison country....

Might have been a small clue there MM. Yes it is Grand Teton NP, the Tetons are behind me. We were actually driving near Jackson Hole township on John D Rockerfeller Jr Parkway, which is the main highway through the park, when all traffic stopped as a large herd of bison started crossing the road. They do as they please and you don't argue with them. I got out and photographed this lead group while the remainder crossed, which took 15 minutes or so. The mountains in the background will be part of the Bridger-Teton National Forest/Wilderness area but I don't know the names.

I have never seen Bison in real life (unfortunately haven't made it to North America yet) but have had a couple of close encounters with water buffalo (in NT) and they can be very imposing.........

Moving back to Europe. Which fairly well known mountain is this?
