Hi Tigercat. I have been reading an account of walking on the Great Himalaya Trail by Wired of the "Walking with Wired" blog. Heaps of good info about walking in Nepal. Might be helpful. Cheers.

Since you want a tea house trek the options are pretty much limited to Langtang, Annapurna or the Everest districts.
Langtang and Manaslu districts were badly damaged by the earthquake and more recently by landslips. The Annapurna Circuit is a shadow if its former self due to the development of roads at both ends.
Which leaves the Everest district. In my opinion its the most scenic anyway. A popular route of late is the three passes trek, but its also worth considering the traditional route to EBC from Jiri instead of flying in.
The best sources of information are the guide books but look for up-to-date editions. I found Kev Renolds Cicerone guides very good but I think Kev has retired now.
The most important thing is to plan an itinerary which allows enough time for altitude acclimatization.
Consider also that as a solo trekker you may have difficulty finding lodging at tea houses at busy times.

In addition to above advice head over to Trip Advisor Nepal forum and there are heaps of advice plus commonly asked questions to top right of page with itineraries for numerous treks.

All the walks are still very worth while and especially if you are first timer without memory of what it was like. Langtang and most earthquake sites are rebuilt and recovered now.

In 2014 I made a wonderful "tea house" trek in the Everest region. I started in Jiri (recommended!), made a loop crossing a few passes and visited Everest Basecamp, Kala Pattar, Gokyo Lakes and some other places. Then walked back to Jiri (looks different when you walk back a month later). Fantastic 319 km walk! (hike report in my signature).

The Jiri - Lukla stretch is lower elevation (1500-3500m, in Nepal they call that "the middle hills" ) but it is much tougher and much more climb/ descend than the Lukla - Everest part. I really liked the Jiri - Lukla (and back) part because it adds a cultural touch to your walk. Unlike Lukla - EBC, it is not a tourist area but you get a real feel of how people live in these remote places.

However, it will probably disappear (or already has?) because when I hiked it in 2014 they had started to build a road...

Some more notes here, recent post at the end of the thread,
Trekking the main routes in Nepal is anything but solo these days.

Anyone that has done this track in October / November: Did you find it difficult to get a room anywhere? This is the only thing that concerns me about going self-guided, that I may finish up with no where to stay. Will be doing the Jiri-EBC walk.
