Multi day hiking Samoa, Fiji, New Caledonia or Vanuatu

Hi all, has anyone done any multi day hiking in these places?

I'll be over that way in September, keen on a 3-5 day walk. Cultural aspects would be great, small group sizes a must. Happy to join a tour group or free walk. Samoa is the most interesting at this point...Mt Silisili looks cool...kayak tours also an option...basically want to get away from the resort blah blah for a bit...

Any tips much appreciated

Hi Stepbystep,
I climbed Mt SiliSili in about 2001, so its a while ago and the players will have changed a lot, but here's a link to my write up from the time.

I did several other day walks on Upolu, but again too much time has passed, and pretty much any village will provide a guide to walk somewhere.
It is possible to walk into Lake Lanoto'o, then north down to the main road near Alesia. Long day going up, but there was a footpath sort of.
From Ti'avea on the NE corner east along the coast to Samusu.
From Salamumu on south coast through Paradise beach to Falease'ela
I also walked up Togitogiga Falls, and simply followed a footpath upriver until I ran out of time and turned around at a major unnamed waterfall.

Thanks digbyg - after some research I've added New Caledonia to the list of possibilities. There is trail in the north and the south of the main island. Anyone done it?

Forget the walking - there's some great caving in Vanuatu.

I walked in Vanuatu in 2014 with Willis Walkabouts. Ed Hill was our leader and he knew the language (bislama) and the customs of the indigenous people. That walk was interesting for me, not having experienced Islanders to much extent. It was all well away from the resorts. One of my best adventures.

I see that it is hoped that another trip is on this year.
