An average bolt of lightning, striking from cloud to ground, contains roughly one billion (1,000,000,000) joules of energy.

Yes, well aware of that and an amount of energy that can easily cook the individual. But the fact that the individual survives yet the clothing get blown off suggests there's a particular mechanism at work. So the question is, how?
