We're not that long back from a trip to North America where we did some hiking; actually, we did a lot of hiking, not always in the bush, sometimes up and down the streets of fascinating towns. Since none can be entered in any competitions it means I'm reduced to putting a couple in this post.
We had every kind of weather from light snow to 25 degrees and balmy, covering the Inside Passage to the Rockies to Oregon and Montana; all fabulous places to go walking. Hope you enjoy the couple of pics (from a selection of over 12,000) that I've posted here.

Were you camping out with the bears at all?

Ian, great shots. Couldn't they be posted in the Landscape and Non landscape comps?

I'd recon that they could go in the "other states" comp too, as they are form the United States

In answer to some of your questions; no, we didn't camp out with the bears.....in fact, we didn't camp out at all, we did it in style at resorts and confined our walking to during the day. However, we did manage to see 10 bears all up, all black. We also saw marmot, chipmunks everywhere and my piece de resistance, mountain goats. They're actually related to antelope and we got quite close at Avalanche Lake.
We did have wind on occasions, but not at Glacier or mid Oregon where we spent most of our time.
When I shot McDonald Lake it was a fluke, there's hardly any shots on the internet with mirror images and we only got them late afternoon on the way back home. In the morning it had been fairly average with ripples everywhere.

Didn't do any camping out, it was all day trips. I'm not as tough as most of you guys on this site, but I do love my days in the bush.
Saw bears on Whistler, Avalanche Lake walk, Blue Lake and, unbelievably, on a balcony at Sun Peaks ski resort. We were reliably informed, somewhat sadly, that the latter bear would probably never be seen again.
Had wind on occasions but, since it was autumn, it was mostly calm.
