Storing luggage in the US

Im contemplating going to the US for 6-8 weeks with about half of that time hiking and walking through some Yosemite and other NP`s in the western states. Apart from places like LAX, is there many places where one can store excess luggage while on the trail? I want to be able to take a few more things with me than just walking gear, and dont want to have to lug everything I bring with me on the trails.
Cheers
Craig

If you are going back to the same hotel or even if you aren't, they typically are willing to keep your luggage for a period (typically without fee). Just ask. That'd be the best option in my experience.

Thanks for that. I was kinda aware that may have been the case, but was wondering if there were independent places that did that sort of thing. Ive tried googling it, but just come up with major airports. Id say that Id probably use the hotel luggage storage, but there may be times that I might be heading in a one-way direction. I guess i could be looking for luggage forwarding as well. Boy so much to think about on a one man holiday.

I was surprised that there are still luggage storage places at LAX. After 911, everything changed and travelling through the US became a pain.

Not US, but on my recent trip down to the Sydney area to do some bushwalking, in between bushwalks, I stayed at hostels and was able to leave my excess gear that I did not wish to cart with me for free. The main criteria I stayed for at least one night on my return from my overnight bushwalk. it worked out cheaper for me to do this than to pay for luggage storage.

Guess Ill just have ne a little more preplanned than I wanted to be. I just wanted to keep my itinerary loose, just in case something took my fancy while there and I could dump and run excess Stuff.

Not sure how you can't be "loose" with the hotel option.
