Just finished a 3 day walk at Freycinet NP, which was organised here (quite a flea circus ): http://bushwalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=594 "Freycinet this weekend [was: Mt Olympus on Anzac Weekend?]"
Not sure whether I'm in the right spot on the forum for a trip report, the ever-watchful admins will probably have their say if need be. Also did a quick search of the forum, nothing too meaningful turned up as a Freycinet thread ... so maybe this could become it?
Anyway, back to the trip ...
Nik rang in sick, so it was me, Jill & Pam from down south.
Smoke haze all the way while driving there, less smoke at Freycinet, Tassie wasn't visible anymore from there though.
Visitor center advised that there's no water at all in the park, they couldn't even say for sure that Cooks Beach hut tanks had water. As it turned out there was more water than I expected, most of the 'usual' creeks trickling nicely enuf, tanks at Cooks Beach pretty full I'm told (didn't see it myself).
We base camped at Hazard's beach camp. On day 2 walked up Mt Freycinet (off-track from Hazards), then back to camp via Cooks. Days 1&3 to&from Hazards off-track via 2 different routes through the lagoon. Also had a bit of a look at the new track sections from the car park to the Wineglass Bay lookout (currently under construction) ... they'll make a huge change to the visitor experience when open ... better graded, up & down traffic separated, better views, better starting point.
Highlights of the walk included soaring wedgetails, plenty black cockies, the biggest/meanest/most colourful leech I've ever seen, very nice weather, ... ... no pics yet coz I didn't take a camera. If Jill & Pam send me some good ones I'll put them up here.
