Grey Mountain [Map & Photos]

Postby ben.h » Tue 29 Jan, 2008 8:40 pm

Grey Mountain is located in the Snug Tiers nature reserve.
From the top of Van Morey road, all tracks across Snug Tiers are very wet and muddy during winter months and temperatures regularly fall to almost zero. Snow falls are not uncommon during winter. There are literally hundreds or tracks up here and MTB, 4WD, Trail Bikes, Bushwalking, etc. are all allowed. An alternative to this walk is to visit Slippery Falls and Pelverata Falls at the opposite end of the reserve. Tasmap: Cygnet and Huonville 1:25000.

Most walks across the tiers are relatively flat and most do not require you to walk on anything other than vehicle tracks. Perfect area to walk with children.

Although I've plotted this as a mountain bike trail, I have also walked the route from the top of Van Morey Road in Margate to the top of Grey Mountain (approx 6hrs return). Map, photos, etc. here:

Before my site was DDOS'ed and I got too lazy to fix it up a user submitted this article on the pelverata/slippery falls area:

Photos are no more due to the hack...but info is still good.
