Strollers recent walk

Postby corvus » Mon 12 Oct, 2009 8:18 pm

Our latest Stroll was off forum to keep the location of the hut somewhat circumspect owing to its proximity to a road
That is all BS because it requires an indication as to where you start your substantial bush bash to reach the edge of the February Plains then a concerted effort to reach the Magnificent Basil Steers Mansion
Being true Strollers we did this with alacricty in unususal perfect weather conditions reaching the Hut in plenty of time for the more "macho " strollers to demomstrate their wood chopping abilities to ensuse the wood pile was let fuller than we found it :)
Once settled in Joe needed to set up a Tent he was asked to review, looked the goods but really hard to tell if set up on a rock base but still came up trumps in good weathrer my observation was that the floor looked a bit on the thin side.
All formalities out of the way it was time for "cook off" our most recent Stroller "julafreak" Julian is an ethnic Chinese who elected to prepare fantastic Gow Gees (fried pork dumplings) for us which took effort , planning, cooking with outstanding results :)
Brett in his normal culinary flourish decided to provide cheese , salami and crackers as his starters followed up with pan fried Atlantic Salmon steamed snow peas and carrots .
To top this off he made Pankcakes and Blueberry sauce ,enough for all :)
He also did Bacon and Eggs for brekkie for him and Pomisi.
All of the other Strollers also ate well just not as elaborate.
A really good Stroll thanks Joe

P.S.
I am so really looking forward to the food suggestions for our Scout Lodge trip (just remember it is all stove top)

Now it took me awhile to find this thread.. :) Thanks for the awesome pics Brett!! and also the salmon (it's better than Mures'es in my opinion). Gerry, is Gow-gee = fried dumplings? Haha Im learning again! apart from skaparia being able to rip goretex apart, poo scat (oops), that wombats are furry cute friendly creatures, and everyone seems to be wearing scarpa boots (must be top stuff). Thanks Joe for organising this trip. It's exciting to discover secret huts O.O reminds me of my Famous 5 books from my childhood days! Well, not like Im much of a difference now when Im having fun :D Overall it was great fun, Famous 5 + 1 lost-looking Asian kid (huh) (where's a stoned face emoticon when you need one?) hehe.. Oh OH and..... COOEEE!!

Looks similar to this one I'd seen before on the RT forums, where they say that it is "called Nicodamus bicolor (common name, Red and Black spider)". Not a terribly exciting name (even the latinised species name is not very imaginitive). But then as frequently happens, it's name may or may not have changed to Nicodamus peregrinus.
