Flyfishing and Walking at Frenchmans Cap

Postby jamest » Sat 21 Feb, 2009 2:29 pm

Hi,
Can anyone offer any advice about flyfishing in the area of Frenchmans Cap? We are planning a walk along the traditional route to Frenchmans and then out to Victoria Pass via the Franklin/ Irenabyss. Are the rivers (Lodden and Franklin) and lakes (Vera and Tahune) along the way worth taking a rod in for? The many spectacular photos look promising but there is very little information about fish stocks, flies and equipment etc.
Thanks, James

I believe there are no trout in either of those lakes(vera & tahune) but the Franklin and Loddon would both carry reasonable numbers of browns.
Access along the banks would be difficult in places but have a try by all means.
Most common flies should work such as black spinner, red tag, caddis etc.and woolly worm, stick caddis, mrs simpsonetc.
Good luck.

No flyfishing at Loddon please! You may scare platypus/es. Thanks
