A few months ago Ripstop by the Roll announced that they had a fancy new fabric printing setup allowing then to print just about any pattern onto fabric. They so far are offering two fabrics for printing, a 1.6 oz/sq.yd. polyester ripstop primarily for hammocks and a 0.9 oz/sq.yd. 15 denier polyester taffeta fabric they're calling Membrane 15 that is downproof and designed for quilt and sleeping bag shells. So I had pretty much no choice but to order some of the prints they were initially offering and make up some of my quilts with this fabric.

The fabric is nice with a soft, smooth hand as well as a good balance between breathability and water resistance with what seems to be a good quality DWR treatment. What really stands out of course is the prints and what's even more exciting is that they are planning to offer custom printing soon where they will print on fabric an image that you provide. This will open up a huge field of creative possibility and I'll be more than happy to make some truly unique quilts with the custom prints if that is what anyone would like. The only downside at present is the cost, which is understandable given they have to run the fabric through a giant dye sub printer to print the patterns. Nonetheless it'll be great to see how this new capability can be used to make some unique and beautiful gear!

If you're interested in the printed fabrics and want to see what patterns are currently being offered then have a look at the OutdoorINK section of the Ripstop by the Roll website: https://ripstopbytheroll.com/collections/outdoorink

Below are some pics of the quilts I've made with the printed fabric, these will soon be made available in my in stock quilts thread (viewtopic.php?f=27&t=23987) at the regular price. Made to order quilts with the printed fabric and future custom printed fabric will have a surcharge due to the extra cost of getting the fabric.

Also waiting to hear when you will be making a double quilt (have been watching and waiting for many months but thought I'd add my voice to the chorus).
Two dags and their pooch who live at the beach in their home called Dagsands, of course.

I've got a lot of work going on behind the scenes at the moment but I am starting to put some ideas together for a double quilt. There has definitely been enough interest expressed to put some work into double quilts!

Anyway, more quilts have been going out recently and here are a few pictures of some of them:

eP1260716.JPG

A nice stack of downy goodness :D . All -8C quilts with 850 fill power HyperDRY down and zip and drawcord footbox closures. The two blue quilts are actually in stock and available to ship out right away! The orange nad green quilts have gone out to their respective owners.

These ones are Macaw Green shell with Navy liner and Burnt Orange shell with Charcoal Grey liner respectively.

Out of the recent quilts I've sent out here are a few pics of an interesting one which is filled with 950 fill power HyperDRY goose down! It weighs in at 590g for a -8C quilt with zip and drawcord footbox (as opposed to around 625g for the same quilt with the 850 fill down) and I must say that the 950 fill does loft up very nicely. More weight could be saved by going with the 10 denier fabric for the shell as well as the lining. The fabrics are Illume 15 in Macaw Green for the shell and Black Membrane 10 for the liner.

Hey - that's my new quilt! Just arrived in the post today - 590gms of fluffy goodness - can't wait to try it out.
Even my wife was impressed with the quality of the build, the amazing loft and the weight or lack of!
This is the latest addition to my new UltraLight makeover - almost done now.

Thanks so much Mike - an awesome quilt.

That's great Stew! Lightening the load certainly makes for a more enjoyable experience! If you take any photos of your quilt in the field I'd love to see them.

It would be nice if you would stop posting seductive pics of that Macaw Green, Mike. :(

It was not available when I purchased my quilt, and I really do not need two.

Hi scrubturkey, I've sent you a message.

David, I haven't received a private message or email from you at this stage (I'm not sure there is a facility to send an email through the forum?). I'll send you a PM now and then you should be able to re-send you original message in reply.

Hi Mike,
Wondered if you could maybe update the first page of this thread with current options and prices - like the zip footbox, loftier down options, current colours etc. It'd be easier than searching through the thread. Of course, you might already have something like that and I've missed it.
Cheers

I wish I could edit the first post with the updated information but I think this forum only allows editing posts for a limited time after posting. I really should just start a new thread with the latest info as this one is now rather long for people to sift through to find all of the details. I had planned on making a new thread once I have other sizes available but that has taken much longer than anticipated and now won't happen till a bit into the new year (although progress has been made on that front).

My beautiful purple and black -8 quilt is a year old on Christmas day. It has seen quite a bit of use in that time including icy nights down to about -8 in Tassie in September.

Never having had (or even seen) a quilt before, I took a punt and negotiated one as a Christmas present. I won't be going back to a bag in a hurry.

The sewing quality is excellent. The design (mine is the sewn in box foot) is great and the loft and warmth are just lovely.

I can't recommend these highly enough.

There are some other options Mike has developed since then, so it's worth following the whole thread through.

If the message is still in your outbox it means Mike hasn't read it. Once he has it will appear in your sent box. Mike hasn't logged on since last Wednesday.
