Snow has settled on the higher peaks overnight.
Also settled around Great Lake area.

An overnight southerly blast left more snow cover on the higher peaks from Ben Lomond through to the West Coast.
Suprising to see more snow cover North of Great Lake on the Tiers than at Great Lake Hotel.
Noticed the Dove Lake web cam is off line, (all pretty colours)
Hopefully it will be up and running again soon.
From Tasmania Police community alerts,
Dove Lake road is open to 4wd only from the Rangers station.
Keep warm and drive safe,

Over the weekend the rain washed a lot of the snow away.
There was a light dusting of snow overnight on Cradle Mountain and the higher peaks.
Good to see Victoria Ski resorts had a good dump over the weekend.
Regards OLM

Edit
Heard on the radio that it snowed most of yesterday and overnight at Ben Lomond, leaving plenty of snow, best falls for the year so far.

I wild night of gale force winds, thunderstorms and heavy rain on the coast brought further snow falls to the mountain peaks from the West Coast through to Cradle Mountain, Central Plateau, Great Lake and a good top up on Ben Lomond.
Drive and walk safe

Tasmanian bushwalkers put on alert

"It is shaping up to be a normal spring, as is the case with spring you can get a few systems carry on post winter," he said.

"It's not uncommon to get this sort of system through."

The heaviest snow will be in the west but will begin to clear up on Wednesday.

Snow is not expected to settle in Hobart's suburbs, but Kunanyi/Mount Wellington is expected to receive a thick covering, along with Ben Lomond and Mount Barrow.

There's a bushwalker alert in place, with tracks such as the Overland expected to be hit hard by snow.

A farmers and grazier's alert is also in place, as well as a road weather alert, with snow expected to fall on the Midland Highway.

From the Mercury

http://www.themercury.com.au/news/tasma ... e22881cd80

Bushwalker Olivia Carr, who was planning to start the Overland Track on Monday, woke up to a large amount of snow instead.

“The snow was up to our calves [yesterday] but they [park rangers] said it would be up to our chest or head in some places on the Overland,” Ms Carr said.

“Considering that info we decided that we valued our lives and would cancel the hike.

“We booked a bus back to Launceston for [today] but it looks like there’s a 99 per cent chance that it won’t run because of the snow. All of the roads were closed [yesterday] except the one to Burnie.”
