Visiting cradle is always a pleasure wether working or not.

Back to the topic..... Does anyone else think a time stamp on the cradle webcams would be a good idea?

This is the only info I can see from Tasmanian Air Rescue Trust Media site
Hope the lady involved is okay.
Regards Overlandman

http://www.tasmanianairrescuetrust.org/media-releases

About 1700hrs yesterday the Police Westpac Rescue Helicopter was activated to search for a 53 year old NSW woman who was reported to be suffering a heart attack on the Overland Track approx 10km south of Dove Lake. The helicopter mission was aborted due to cloud cover of the area and a land party consisting of police, ses and a wilderness paramedic was activated.

They located the woman on the track about 1am and carried her to Dove Lake where she was then flown to the North West Regional Hospital in a stable condition.

I walked through on 6 July exiting at LSC on 13 July and at Cradle there was plenty of snow falling when we left. There was existing snow of about 50cm up to a meter or more on the peaks, but I suspect it may have rained on Sunday 14 July as it rained at LSC. It will not have washed it all away, but you may want boot chains on the tracks as it will be likely to be very icy. The OLT itself was basically unbroken snow from end to end, except where it is a creek or under heavy tree cover.

We would have passed you somewhere on the track or at a hut, we were heading north, left LSc on the 5th.

Was hoping to start the OT about the 2-3 Sept. starting to get a little concerned after all the reports of big dumps. Any further reports? Keen to and happy to walk in some snow but not postholing 60km. Wasnt keen on needing to use snowshoes if avoidable and that climb up to Marions Lookout could be interesting if snow and ice.

Any learned opinions appreciated.

Ellobuddha, I had this communication this morning from Launceston:

"Thought you may like to know that we had Police Search and Rescue in here this morning, apparently the snow on the ground is amazing at the moment with more forecast to fall for the rest of the week!"

The same source said that yesterday OT walkers starting out had to turn around before Waterfall V. as snow conditions were deemed too difficult without snowshoes.

The BOM forecast doesn't look too bad for next week. But you are looking 2 weeks out. Conditions could change again.

Thanks mate,

If you hear anything else next couple of weeks please post. We are a group of four, fit and plenty of right gear but I think its smart to know your limits as well. I did 10hrs of knee/thigh deep in Nepal and it wasnt fun. Thanks again.

Fairly chilly on the coast this morning & the Cradle Mountain / Dove Lake Web Cam is not working.
This report was on the Advocate Web Site

Truck jack-knifed on Belvoir Road at Cradle Mountain this morning.
The road was blocked for 30 minutes while Police worked to remove the truck from the area.
Police advised motorists the road should only be accessed by 4WDs due to snow fall in the area.
The incident occurred just before 8am.
