Current conditions

Postby TwoDuck » Sat 10 Sep, 2016 6:19 pm

Hi all
We are still 8 days away from starting the OLT (N-S), but wondering from anyone who may have just come back inlast few days, or arrives back next week, what the walking conditions are like? Specifically any snow on the actual track to fight through? We are first timers from Queensland. Would anyone advise spikes for our boots or just walking poles and be careful?
Beautiful pics of all that snow but we're not so keen if we're up to our waists!
Thank you all. So looking forward to a break in beautiful Tassie!

This time of year spikes are pretty much a necessity. There are a number of sections (such as the drop into Waterfall Valley, for instance) that will be icy for most of the day, and poles won't do anything to stop your feet slipping.

Hope it stays that way for the rest of the week but a little snow would be pretty cool too

Thanks Corvus! Have packed them. They are cheapies but hopefully do the job. Minimums in the BOM forecast down to 2, do you think it will still be icy? I guess up higher it will be colder than the forecast?

Yes, Ant, I would love just a sprinkle of snow, maybe after day 1 though! Probably see you out there somewhere! We are three - hubby, me and 11yo. Blue, maroon and red rainjackets respectively. We are starting early on Monday. Have a wonderful trip!
