Overland Track clothing list

Postby johnk1 » Tue 22 Mar, 2016 11:15 pm

Hi all,

I am doing the Overland Track for the first time starting on Wednesday 30th of March (next week).

I would like some advice/opinions on my clothing that I will be taking as to whether or not it will be sufficient.

My list is as follows.

Clothes to walk in:

Long sleeve quick dry shirt.
Quick dry shorts.
Woolen socks.
Gaiters.
Leather Zamberlan boots.
Long sleeve and long pants thermals (if needed while walking).
Hat or beanie as required.
Gloves if needed.
Bonds underwear.

Camp clothes:

Clean/dry set of long thermals.
Polartec 100 long sleeve pullover.
Polartec 200 vest.
Beanie.
Clean/dry underwear and socks.

Rainwear will be Wilderness Wear strider jacket and pants.

Sleeping bag is good to minus 7.

Will one set of socks and underwear for walking and another set for camp be sufficient?

I have done a fair amount of multi day walks this is my first time walking in Tassie.

Hi John

Looks a good list. I walked at a similar time and whilst walking I wore a merino long 150 top and the quick dry shirt and then used the hardshell goretex top all the time as the weather was cold and wet. I also had on long hiking pants. Next time I would wear shorts plus merino longs underneath if it was cold.

I pair of light camp shoes is good to have as your boots will be wet at the end of most days - I take a pair of crocs - light weight.

Sleeping bag should be fine and if you are camping out rather than in the huts it would be good to have an insulated mat - such as exped downmat or similar.

Thanks for the reply philm.

I will be taking a pair of crocs for around camp and I also have an insulated mat.

Hi Dan,

By tried and tested I'm guessing you mean well worn in?

Just as long as you have worn them enough to know you won't get blisters ;)

All good with no blisters Dan.

I bought it from The North Face in Dublin 5 years ago Strider. I wear it almost everyday in late Autumn and Winter and it is still going strong. Probably my favourite piece of clothing I own.
