Kia Ora to Narcissus

Wed 11 Nov, 2015 2:14 pm

Will be walking the OT in December and planning to walk from Kia Ora to Narcissus on the second last day of the trip and on the final day walking from Narcissus to Cynthia Bay to catch a lift around 2.00pm. Two questions really; 1. is the walk from Kia Ora to Narcissus (with side trips to the falls) doable at a reasonable pace over one day; and 2. is 2.00pm a realistic finish time on the final day - given say a 7.00am start from Narcissus. Thanks

I can't comment on the Narcissus-Cynthia Bay leg, but Kia Ora to Narcissus is doable, but is about 22km in total. When I walked this leg recently (albeit in the other direction) it took around 10 hours in total. With about an hour lunchbreak and another hour or so sidetrip to Hartnett Falls.

Narcissus to Cynthia Bay is around 16km so you should manage your 2.00pm pick up ok.Enjoy you walk.

This information should be in any version of the track notes. The Tas PWS notes, with walk times and distances on the first page, are here: http://www.parks.tas.gov.au/file.aspx?id=36854

Add another hour or so to visit D'Alton and Fergusson Falls. IMO D'Alton Falls is the best out of the three.

Kiaora to Narcissus is very doable. Narcissus has now been done up and also has tent platforms it's not a bad place to stop at. On a side note I like the new tie downs on the platforms, adjustable chains instead of the fiddly wire. Had to help a few ppl with those over the years
Narcissus to Cynthia is also doable in a day.

2 long (distance)days of walking could mean that you might be a bit slow(foot sore/tired) after Echo so allow a bit extra time for that leg.

Yes! A much better system indeed. Those wire things are a nightmare.

Free standing Scarp TT and a few cup hooks is also really good :)

Definitely doable - make sure you start early and you'll be fine.

I think Kia Ora to Windy Ridge in 1 day gives you far more time to explore the waterfalls which IMO is one of the best side trips in the park,. Day 2 you could walk Windy Ridge to Echo Point for a ferry pick up.
