When using my Q3T ball head with the panning knob locked, it turns/unscrews on the tripod thread?
Any suggestions?

I found a nice stretchy stubby holder that I pull over the top of the ball head and just leave it on the tripod.

I have a readily available cheapy aluminium tripod that I intend taking on the OT later in the year. It cost $AU50 a few years ago (*replaced it last year with the same model in Japan for $18!!). Total weight 800g. It's is quite sturdy for it's build and the best part is that it truely is light and carries my 1.5kg of rig (7D+17-17mm) on it fine.

Still looking for something lighter though. I will be taking my walking poles and intend using them as a mono, however they are really no goo dfor portrait orientation.

Light weight camera support

Postby West » Mon 23 Aug, 2010 1:00 pm

There is a new camera support spam link removed that seems perfect to use while hiking.

I've been looking for something like this to avoid having to take a tripod out on walks.

Just wanted to add my 10 cents worth!
Just bought my second slick sprint pro, cheap and nothing flash but is probably the most versatile light weight tripod around and it works for me! You can lean it against a tree or hang you camera underneath. There is also a mini, All for under $150.00 Had the other one nocked off some time ago and could not find a replacement. Look for improvements in my shots!

Just thought I would share a couple of useful links in case anyone was looking to see what they were really worth...
