Well, initially that was my problem. But as photos have to be taken this month, I am in a dilemma. No walks planned until later in the month when I go for a week or more and won't be home until March. So those photos will be no good for next month's comp either, as they will be taken in late February.
Might have to drag the camera somewhere... and take something... anything... just to get a photo this month that I can enter this month. If not, no entry from me this month :(

I have discussed this with nik and we are working on ideas. In the very near future there may be a comptition with prize of getting your photos in a large publication. This competition will be open to shots taken whenever. So just grin and bear this month...there is no theme...so you dont necessarily need to go for a walk to get a good pic...

Hi all... I am having a bit of a problem with keeping EXIF info from my RAW images. I am using Photoshop CS3 and whenever I save the files to JPEG using the save to web & devices function it removes all the EXIF info from the picture.

Does anyone know of a workaround for this? I have searched forums, google, etc. and can't find a solution.

Thanks

i think there is another save function isnt there for straight jpg? IE save for web is the issue. Im all open source nowdays and know very little about Adobe product...but i have an inkling that if you save as JPG using another file menu option rather than use the save for web your exif will survive.

Yeah it seems my rather dodgy memory serves correct. Substance abuse hasn't got all the brain cells ;)....yet.

this article explains it all rather nicely

Thank you so much... I was trying to use "Save as" but it wasn't showing JPEG as an option... This was the reason why:

"Bit depth may also be an issue since JPEG images come in 8-bit mode only. "Save As" will only present you with the option to create a JPEG if your image in 8-bit mode. To convert from 16-bit (or 32-bit) mode, use Image >> Mode >> 8-bits/Channel. If you use "Save for Web" instead, Photoshop will handle this for you. Your original image will remain unaltered."

A very helpful article, I am still a Photoshop virgin

Thanks again, now I can work some more on my photo competition masterpiece

Hey dude... thanks heaps for getting this part of the forums off the ground, anyhow. It's been a great success. Thanks for what you've been putting into it.

I'll certainly make sure it keeps going.

What's keeping you busy these days? Is it work or other extra-curricular activities?

Photography has taken of a bit more which occupies my spare time and my wife has Chronic Fatigue and has been off work all year. please leave my mod status as it is in those forums if thats ok...I just felt it was unfair at moment because I am unable to get time to run it...i still want to help where i can :D

Just curious - but the rules say panoramas are allowed.
But I was not aware that panoramas formed by stitching 2 different photos together would have EXIF data to prove the date taken?

Any thoughts?

It depends on the stitching software, as to whether the data would be preserved or not (eg from one of the photos). If the data is not preserved, you could email me one of the originals, or some other form of proof, if you like. The rules are there in order to try and keep things fair and above board, but the competition is really just for fun, so I'll try to not take it too seriously.

Another option would be to take the photo wide-angle and crop it down - resolution should be okay as the max size for entry is 800 pix anyhow. And this will keep exif intact if done correctly.
But as Nik says, it's not that serious - as long as there is proof.

But... To any clever heads out there... Changing the date in your camera is against the spirit of the competition.

Faking EXIF data is trivially easy, anyhow. So there's not point getting too hung up on it. :-)
