full frame compact sony rx1

Postby wayno » Thu 13 Sep, 2012 5:29 am

so, who's going to buy one?
i got an rx100 and that shoots photos as clear as an slr. very happy with it.

This isn't just Sony's most serious compact camera, but arguably the most serious compact camera we've ever seen. It features a full-frame sensor and a fixed 35mm F2 lens, making it a real heavyweight in terms of lightweight photography. Sony has said it is targeting professional photographers and we see no reason to question that.

Me :D But then I've been shooting with a single-prime for about the last 18 months, I love the 35mm focal length, and 95% of my work is travel/landscape, so for me size and image quality are by far the most important factors (the extra 5% IQ that simply doesn't matter for most shooters). The size is incredible - it fits in your palm! - and I can't imagine the IQ from a matched Zeiss lens and Sony sensor will be anything but stella...

That said, I guess I'm part of the 1% niche that Sony is targetting. For most photographers I reckon this will be pretty baffling release... My guess is that its a bit of a concept model that they decided to put into production - I think it's probably a test-bed of sorts for tech that will go into a full-frame, interchangeable lens mirrorless body soon, a bit like the Fuji X100.

preorders for the RX1 are greater than their SLT (slr category) A99 full frame. so people are taking to it.
so what is your current camera Nick?

GH2, Lumix 7-14/f4, Nokton 25/f0.95 and m.ZD 45/f1.8. The size is fantastic and the Nokton is the best lens I've used, but sensor IQ just isn't there for challenging landscape work...
