In short I didn't but I did store it in a waterproof Pelicase in my pocket (it just fits in a modified Pelican 1010 case). Am currently looking into waterproof housings!! Very expensive but probably necessary for the environments I visit.

Sorry - just realised you are probably referring to the 5% of footage not done on the RX100 m3. If it was footage on the OLT it was most likely from a GoPro. Apologies about that.

How many batteries did you chew up shooting the OLT video?

Nice job!

Carried one spare battery but also a Yellowstone 6600mAh Energy Bar (weighs 182g) which I use to recharge my iPhone. Have discovered that plugging the camera into the Energy Bus via standard USB charges the camera battery absolutely fine. I think I did this twice and in theory had half of the energy bar still available at the end of the trip.

I just received mine today, do you find the lens to be a bit noisy when going from 24 to 70mm but much less so when going the other way?

It seems a bit noisier than the old mark 1 which is a bit worrying.

It is slightly noisier than I would like but quieter than some other compacts I have used previously. Haven't used a Mk1 so cannot comment on the differences. I have though been happy with the smoothness of the zoom function.

Thanks for that, it was not what I was expecting (based off the mark 1 zoom noise) but about the same as my mum's Canon so if you've noticed it is not a "quiet" lens I'm probably all good and can attach a filter bayonet.

Has anyone seen any Australian stock for cheaper than $915? I found it here: http://www.camerapro.com.au/sony-cyber-shot-dsc-rx100-iii-digital-camera-australian-stock.html. I've been looking at grey imports and they have generally ranged in price from $800 - $930ish. Very tempted to try and get Ted's to beat this, or see what package they can put together for me. Otherwise, I'll just buy it from this mob... unless I can an Australian one somewhere else for cheaper.

That seems pretty good for Australian stock. I generally use Leederville Cameras as my benchmark and they are $948.

Overboard make a flexible waterproof case that fits the RX100 for about$35. They sell 2 very similar cases, one with the lens barrel offset that does not fit and one with the lens barrel centred which fits, just. It is difficult to order the right one as they have the same name and even the photos on their site often mix them up. But they will exchange them. On the net there are a bunch of reviews saying it fits fine and others that say it won't. That's because there are actually 2 cases sold under the same name. Regardless it is a cheap solution though you do not have access to all the camera functions.

The OLT video is excellent. It is hard taking good photos while keeping up with a group but even harder to do video. I was impressed. The group also looked to be well equipped and knew what they were about. Unlike the usual summer crowd.

The Sony RX100 III and the Sony RX 100 II take out best point and shoot camera under $1000 and the runner up spot at the Wirecutter.

Per Aushiker's prompting, Kogan's listing of our local price points for the Mk 1, 2 and 3 models are now at $379, $559, $849 respectively.

A photobuff mate sent me to this site, basic discount warehouse for one of the big retailers (I hear)(can't recall which, JB perhaps?). They are always towards the cheaper end:

http://www.discountcameras.com.au/

Iv'e bought a few things from there, sent others there, no dramas, haven't had to use the warranty.

They'll get older models if you ask.

Yeah, that is some difference. Just another one for comparison anyhow.. I did look at the RX 100, similar sorts of prices at the cheaper end. At the time they had really good prices on the Nikon gear (I was after), perhaps just models they buy in bulk. Iv'e used Camera Paradise, they must have had better prices though did seem like a direct importer (ie. ordered when you order I suspect, perhaps warranty issues (perhaps)), or my idea of a 'grey' import.

Wayno - did you notice the next post in that thread. Canon G7X got a better DxO Score than the RX100 M3 (71 to 67). I was thinking the LX100 would be my next camera but feel it is a little too big for what I want. The Canon G7X looks like it beats or matches the RX100 on most points so has moved to the top of my wish list. 24-100 f1.8-2.8 lens, same size and weight, uses Sony's 1" sensor and now better images. It is also available in Australia right now.

Got my wife an RX100 MKII as an Xmas present for her next Nepal trek - $569.

The tilt screen is a feature I would have loved to have on my MkI. And the wifi remote control via iPhone.
