What's the oddest thing you've seen on a GPS map?

Yeah, sorta meant GPS software including the maps

Heh - yeah, except I've been to this spot - it's a cliff...

Was close! Falling into a sink hole can be similar as going off a cliff...

So, which mapset was it from? If it's off OSM data, then it'd be worth making a contribution and add the cliff line.

Good question - probably the default Topo map on GaiaGPS...

According to GaiaGPS it's OpenHikingMap HD by OSM...

So where do you submit corrections?

On OpenStreetMap.org. You need to create an account and then learn a few drawing tools to enter/edit the existing data. Not difficult. If you have difficulties, let us know as many here are versed and regularly contribute to the dataset. Once edited, it'll need to be saved before the data gets locked in. So try thing and start over if messed.

I have removed the lake but not sure when it will show up in your GPS software - depends how often they update.

In fact I'm not 100% sure how the GaiaGPS software even updates the maps - the map was there when I bought the software...

I suspect GaiaGPS would not update their maps too regularly. So be patient is my instinct...

Thanks Phil for jumping in. I did not know where the location was. Otherwise, where did that purposeful looking lake entry come from? Accident?

Ok, found the location. There looked to have a dried water reservoir nearby on the satellite layer.

Defintely no lake there - the whole area is mountainous...

I think the Satellite map has "shadows" that have been read as "water"

So much more prettier than the satellite image! Lovely farm and location. For sale? LOL

I think I could actually take out the boundary as well. looks like it was part of a larger import that maybe used vegetation layers or something to determine what was 'forest' and maybe that area wasn't 'forest' and they just marked it as water!

I agree. Found and had a good look too and saw no reasons for that delineation. Yes, remove it unless that ditch functions as a reservoir in the wet. Only a local would know.

Done - Looks more like scree slope and with the contours the way they are I don't think it would hold water

It may actually be pulling the map 'live' which means in a few hours it will probably be updated. Easiest way to tell is to turn on flight mode on your phone and then zoom into an area you have never been to before. If the map tiles dont appear then its dragging them over 3G when you use the app. They sometimes cache the map tiles on your device (for various lengths of time) which is a good thing if you want to save batteries. It means you can zoom around in an area where you are going walking, then turn on flight mode, and the maps will still be there on your hike (but no guarantees!)
