Bascamp Projection Accuracy

Postby rodbox5 » Wed 12 Nov, 2014 4:04 pm

Now that I can print off map pages from my Topo Australia GPS map in Basecamp, does anyone know if it's an accurate printed projection?

I'm thinking it would useful to have the same printed map as the image n your GPS - so that you can use the paper map and a compass as backup to your GPS.

The only issue of course is that if the projection is not accurate, any bearings you take from the printed map won't be accurate (which could be embarrassing).

Anyone have experience with this?

A quick read on the topic gives me this:

You'll need to adjust projection angle for maximum quality: (try ctrl+alt+a)
eg: http://forum.ctc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=89997

You can also adjust for mag declination if you want:

Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful.
