- Firstly, absolutely no Casio G-Shock … they're hideous and huge
- I'd prefer a face diameter of around 35mm otherwise I find it sticks into the back of my hand when bent back; uncomfortable
- No fancy stuff my Garmin GPS or Kestrel already does like altimeter, barometer, temperature
- I'd really prefer analogue
- Digital compass would be nice, preferably with analogue display … I've seen it on just one or two models
- No chronograph dials — that stuff is just messy and visual noise
- Comfortable band like canvas or leather — yes I know canvas doesn't last long, I'm ok with that
- Shockproof would be nice but I look after my gear … though I left my last GPS on the roof of the car
- Alarm would be nice if it's easier to set than the one on my GPS
- Stopwatch and/or countdown timer would be nice, again if it's easier to set than the one on my GPS
- Given those last requirements it'll likely be a analogue-digital hybrid
- Rain/splashproof — I won't go diving with it
