Basecamp Mobile Garmin usual junk

Postby Ent » Sat 16 Nov, 2013 4:27 pm

Hi

I downloaded Garmin's mobile version of Basecamp that runs on an iPhone. Lets say it is typical Garmin poor programming. I clicked on it and it wanted to use my Garmin account so a away it went. Now it is stuck on the endless setup screens. Yet another poor user interface from a company with a long history of crummy user interfaces.

So no report apart from it is junk with no help. Yeap yet another Garmin!!!!!

When Magellan wakes up and smells the roses on the wind of change and allows open maps such as OSM. Until then Garmin is the less restrictive of the two evils by a small margin.

Do you know of ANY open source GPS's? I am also curious and willing to part company from the "big boys" in the GPS game

This comes to mind: https://www.meetearl.com

Has a few drawbacks though; big, heavy, no AA batteries, not so stellar battery life (solar may help a lot with that though).

Still a cool looking gadget and were money no object (and it came with AU maps) I'd like one to play with.

 , Garmin GUI's are junky on their own products, I know I have 3 of them  but don't expect them to work on non Garmin gear!

And as for support, hey they beta test by way of their own customers so yes YOU are the product support, not them..
