Best Tasting Dehydrated Camping Food

I've just ordered from Strive Foods in Tasmania so I'll try theirs first.

Good move. They're the best value prepared meals I've come across. Just loaded up for an upcoming trip, and the delightful lady at the counter put most of the stuff through as seconds because I'd bought so much. Gotta love this island.

I am getting most of my meals for the Overland from Strive.

Big serves, Strive. On a recent trip we used Strive for 4 of the 6 nights. There were 3 of us and we allowed a single serve each, per night. After we had considerable difficulty getting through the first night's planned allotment, we managed quite comfortably with a double serve between the 3 of us from then on. I guess a big eater with a good appetite would polish one off but it was certainly more than sufficient for our needs. Good tasting food though. Would certainly use it again.

Titanium pot & pan so it should be fairly light, I don't think the handles are titanium...but I've been wrong before.
Pot holds 650ml not sure about the pan.

Just got back from the Overland and mainly took Strive main meals. The Spag Bol was a favourite.

Great photo Ofuros - chopsticks? I carried one on the Overland for stiring worked really well and lightweight hard to eat with one though .

Yes Simon, the ol' choppers come in handy, need two to tango though.
i just grab an extra set if we're having asian for lunch at the local shopping centre.

That laksa looks amazing! Much better than the cupasoup types i usually pack. Going to have to try strive

The last two have Nutritional Yeast in them, which gave a strong nutty/cheesyness to the meal...at

Do you typically use less water than required for strive food? After adding the water amount for the laksa, with the ingredients to my Jetboil it was basically overflowing

I use far less water for Strive than recommended. I can't remember exactly but it may have been up to 200mL less than recommended. I know that I made the bolognese and the laksa in my 600mL pot, which according to the instructions should have totally overflowed.

I bought I whole bunch of strive to test. Will add significantly less water tonight, and add more of I need too. Was still a bit shocked that a single serve wouldn't fit in the jet boil; people are right they're big servings, can't imagine the double servings.

And not just Strive either. I have 900ml pots for that very reason. I've always considered the Jetboil inadequate.

Strives says use approx 625ml for the Laksa, remember we're out in the bush...close enough is good enough.
I didn't have much choice because of my potsize, so i used less to suit the pot.
Still turned out tasty, warming & filling.

I'll keep that in mind haha. Used 350ml for the spag Bol, and wouldn't have wanted anymore water in it than that.
Next time I'll be taking the mushrooms out of the laksa, didn't really like them, otherwise I've been impressed with strive.

Had the Spag Bol for breakie on Cliffs Trail down in the wet & wild New England NP yesterday....500ml water used, yearned for some more
flavour so you could spot on with 350ml, Mitchc. I'd take a small ziploc bag of extra bitey parmesan cheese next time too, to replace theirs.
When wild winds blow & the rains come lashing down I do like plenty of warmth & flavour in the wilderness.

What are everyone's opinions on the best Strive and Back Country dehy meals?

It's a personal taste thing, mate. I don't do curry, so that leaves out a lot of options (although I find the Strive Veggie Laksa absolutely delish).
Freeze drying works better with mince than chunks of meat, so the BC meals with mince generally taste better - Cottage Pie, Bobotje, Spag Bol (although this is a rip off as it uses instant noodles). Chicken comes up OK too.
But all the Strive I've tried are great. They do really good supplement packs too - one with mixed veggies and one with beef mince.

I always carry a can of this to impress the troops at camp...

Often it appears amongst the other food items and when the cook realises what it is it usually gets a laugh making for a jovial start to the meal.

Lets say it's a food additive that makes everything taste better, or funnier.

Another vote for Strive meals after my recent trial of them. Had the Veg Laksa and Spag Bol double serve and shared with a mate. Veg Laksa was amazing and spag Bol was great too although would maybe add some herbs or chillli next time to that. There is no comparison to the average back country meals etc, Strive was 100% better hands down. Serving size of the double was good as well so wasn't hungry at all when we were done...

The lamb and mushroom risotto from the Gourmet Backcountry range (black packet) is actually fantastic. So is the Apple Pie dessert from the normal range (light green packet).
Those are the only backcountry ones I go near... Rest are Strive. Favourite is the bolognese and chilli con carne.

Just tried Strive over the weekend.

Spag Bol and Veg Laksa.......was impressed as its the first we have tried.

Ordered the Massaman Curry and Lentil Dahl Curry from Strive for my camping trip this weekend in Mitchell River. Was impressed with delivery. Ordered it on Saturday night and it arrived on my door step yesterday.

So far, so good. Can't wait to test it out!
