Tasty Bite

Has anyone tried out the new Tasty Bite pouches while out bushwalking?

They have replaced the old foil pouches for plastic and I was wondering how they go boiling in the billy. I'll give them a go if nobody else has. I might need to rig up a hook or clip to hold the plastic off the bottom of the pot. The old foil pouches were fine sitting in the boiling water for a few minutes so hopefully these will be okay too.

Yeah, tried a few. They were definitely relatively tasty. Not very good value though, light on solid ingredients and a lot of fluid to carry (on a walk)
edit: i did boil-in-the bag, perhaps they were foil pouches, i'd say so.

The new plastic pouches are as good as the foil ones. I boiled one, Kashmir Spinach, in the jetboil for a few minutes without needing to hold it off the sides or bottom of the billy and the plastic wasn't effected by the heat and it still tasted great. That's a relief, less fiddling around at the end of the day with the good old boil-in-a-bag.

When I cook them I usually put on the rice and throw in a handful of Strive's dehy vegies first then when that is almost ready I place the pouch on top. After a few minutes I take out the pouch, drain the rice and veg then pour the pouch on the rice, inside the pot, less washing. It is a huge meal and often I leave some for breakfast or a snack the next day.

I haven't tried all the Asian ones yet but if they're anything like the Indian ones then they should be good.

I've tested 2 of the Tasty Bite products at home - taste was great and the convenience factor good. Nice for a change from the freeze dried meals.
Unfortunately I got quite bad and long lasting diarrhoea from the Madras Lentils not something I'd like to encounter during a hard Bushwalk or Ski touring.
I'd like to try it again before taking it out bush....

Hope your stomach is okay with it next time.
I had the same reaction the first time I tried the yellow dahl but only once and for only one night. My stomach was fine with it after that. Lucky because it is one of my favourites.
