I bought a vac seal unit and tried all sorts of things (even spare toilet rolls, which works great).

Recently I took two of those big sister plum and fruit puddings out of the tins and sealed them. They pull in to half size and are heavy but you can just heat them in the bag and they make a tasty dessert with custard, and very filling.

I was only kidding about hiring it out. But I didn't realise they were that affordable.

I guess you could shrink/seal the spare underware/hanky/socks/etc.

What's the size specifications? How big a bag of stuff can you seal?

doing a quick search looks like these units are about $250 - did you get yours on sale somewhere?
Are the bags / refill rolls expensive & readily available?
Sounds like a great piece of equipment, 100 sounds better than 250 tho.

I did get mine on sale but am sure they weren't that dear (last year ) I'll drop into Begents and check. They make a smaller model (and perhaps a bigger one?) but mine is about 28cm bag width by whatever length (and then you can also cut them up width wise). The rolls for mine (and the unit) are were/sold in a lot of places (H.Norman/H.Scarfe/Kmart?/ etc.) and I got this one/model as it's been around a while and you can get the bags easily.

I went for a wander at lunchtime. I found three different Sunbeam models, 420, 440 and 550. I think this may partly correspond to the width of the machine. Retail price (rounded) appears to be Model VAC420 $180, Model VAC440 $200, Model VAC550 $250. However I found one store (in an outer Sydney suburb, but a national chain) with the 550 on sale for $180. The purpose-made bags or rolls seem to go for about $40/pkt.
