I've only been able to find it in cans, which aren't that heavy in the grand scheme of things, but still a nuisance.

It's been 5 years, has anybody found foil pouch chicken in Australia or are we still limited to just the cans?

It was around for a while about a year ago but has disappeared again. The Salmon pouches also seem to have vanished.

Aldi has the mini cans in spring water with salt now. I just ran a couple through my dehydrator. They also have a pouch of shredded chicken breast which I've dried and vacuum sealed. Depending on how long you need it for fresh variety in a vacuum seal might last a little while.

I'm searching high and low for anything that isn't fish that I can take hiking haha.

Thanks, what was the shelf life on the pouch? Could you possibly give me the brand name or post a pic?
I was searching for long life meats other than fish, salami and spam, though I'm almost about to give up and take the dehydrating route instead. But if the shelf life on that chicken is long it would be a nice treat in my food drops. Thanks again.

What's wrong with tuna? By the time just about any fish, chicken or meat is canned it tastes like canned tuna anyway.

That said, you could always try making your own pouches. You can buy "retort" pouches which are suitable for home canning. It does mean you need a pressure cooker in order to achieve the temperature required to make the food safe (and taste like tuna!). And you have to spend the time. Once you have the equipment and have gone through the routine a couple of times it's probably no worse than home dehydrating, or so I imagine.

But you cannot import meats of poultry products from other countries without jumping though multiple hoops even if the DotCom site sellers could be bothered posting O/S.
In the grand scheme of things small tin do not weight that much for up to a week

It's the great chicken conspiracy, no way anything remains alive in those pouches
I notice eggs-ovaeasy on the same page.. six weeks on hold and then customs wanted a statutory declaration from the manufacturer on the contents.. to import that stuff. Protectionism from local industry, thanks to our local authorities?

And where are those larger 250gram chook tims? Tins cheaper than the chicken that fills them?
