TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

WM UltraLite cf Marmot Helium

G'Day,

I'm looking at either getting a WM UltraLite or a Marmot Helium sleeping bag from the States.

Just wondering what people's opinions on the two are, and if they would suggest one over the other?

Cheers,

Dyl

Hi,
I have the WM Ultralite which is a great bag, nice and warm enough for winters down here in Tassie. The quality of the bag is excelllent and there is nothing really bad I can say about the bag. When I bought mine I also had a look at the Marmot one, but because I was able to get the WM on special for a great price I decided against the Marmot. I dont know but the MArmot may be a bit warmer as it has a bit more fill which makes it also a bit heavier. I'm also not sure about the cut of the MArmot, the WM is quite narrow and probably not suitable for people who move around alot while asleep.

Hi optdyl,
I have a women's Helium for the winter. It is a beautiful bag. :D
(Women's helium has a bit more down around the middle than the males.)
Warm, heaps of loft, packs down well.
If you watch the US sites they do occasionally go on special.
Melinda
(I also have a WM Highlight as a summer bag, WM make beautiful gear!)

Thanks both for your replies.
I'm leaning towards the Helium as I move around a bit in my sleep, and I have read that the WM can be a bit of a tight squeeze.
Moosejaw also gives 10% off the cost of the Helium and I have a friend travelling to the States in a few weeks so I won't have to pay for shipping which makes the experience much lighter on the wallet :D

Don't think you will be disappointed with either of these bags!
Every time I go to jump into my Helium on a really, cold night out in the bush I say a little prayer to the down gods out there!
